Ensuring the right balance of expertise, real-world experience, and best practices across business strategy, governance organizational performance, executive and talent development.
Start-Up Businesses or what is known as small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria is regarded as the backbone of major developed economies, and an important contributor to employment, economic, and export growth.
However, despite the significant contribution of SMEs to the Nigerian economy, challenges persist that hinder the growth and development of the sector.
There still exists a myriad of challenges in their operations in the Nigerian business environment, ranging from the inability to access funds due to the category of funding they belong to, the lack of structures and systems for the businesses, corporate governance, lack of leadership and management skills. Although other challenges encountered by the sector include lack of required human capital and skilled personnel, multiplicity of taxes, high cost of doing business, among others.
Based on the above, Toye Sobande and the Team at Stephens Leadership Consultancy (SLC) believes there is a need to conduct a “FREE” solution backed assessment and workshops for 50 selected SMEs in Nigeria with the aim coaching and helping the founders and the principal officers of the business develop their leadership and management competencies thereby unlocking the growth and development of the sector in Nigeria. We believe when the leader of a business gets better, the people working in the business get better and the business gets better too.
The Free workshops for the leaders of the SMEs will be conducted at every quarter of the year and it will run for a 2-week period.
The workshops will assist in attaining a status report on the level of effective leadership and management capacity and other support strategies on the targeted recipients; as well as aid in driving the corporate governance structure and organizational systems and procedure, strategic direction and formulation going forward, especially in this present economic climate.
Toye Sobande is the founder of Stephens School of Governance, which exists as an institution that works towards transforming the political landscape and public sector through education and building a Nigeria we all want to live in. We will do this by teaching individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 the required skills that will help them navigate their political aspirations with confidence and purpose.
The participants will learn about how Nigeria works in the broad arena of governance, and, how to navigate the politics of delivering development in Nigeria’s highly unequal and impoverished contexts. The primary purpose is to produce knowledge about how Nigerian public and development institutions are governed and managed.
The courses will cover specific areas such as Formation and Administration of Political Parties, Policy Development, Political Strategies, Fund-raising and Financing Election, Public Speaking, Media Management, History of Politics in Nigeria, Grassroots mobilization, Political Campaign/Electioneering Process, Developing Political Ideology, etc.
We believe in making political education relevant to all people by hosting regular public dialogues, debates, workshops, and talks. To this end, we form partnerships with different organizations, including those outside the education sector, to ensure that political education translates into politically relevant action.
The Stephens School of Governance will offer an online learning experience that will provide the opportunity for aspirants to advance their political career with occupationally relevant online offerings that equip them with skills and knowledge that can be applied immediately.
